Homemade Korean fried chicken ⠀

The best Korean fried chicken I ever had and it’s homemade! I used authentic Korean fried chicken coating after watching recipe and it was a hit. I adjusted the sweet and spicy sauce to my preference as I couldn’t find Gochujang without alcohol. If you’re in the mood for Korean fried chicken, give this a try! You won’t regret it ⠀


Fried chicken: ⠀
1kg chicken thighs, cubed ⠀
1 tbsp minced garlic ⠀
1 tbsp white vinegar ⠀
1 and 1/2 tsp salt ⠀
Black pepper to taste ⠀
1.5 cups Korean fried chicken coating (Beksul brand)⠀
1.5 cups cold water ⠀
Extra fried chicken coating ⠀
Oil for deep frying ⠀

Sauce: ⠀
1 tsp chilli flakes ⠀
3 tsp tomato sauce ⠀
2 tsp soy sauce ⠀
3 tsp sugar ⠀
1 tsp minced garlic ⠀

Sesame seeds ⠀
Chives ⠀

In a large bowl combine chicken, garlic, vinegar, salt and black pepper. Mix throughly and let marinate for 30 minutes. ⠀

In another bowl combine fried chicken coating and cold water. Whisk to make a smooth batter. Place chicken in the batter and mix throughly to coat. ⠀

In a wide container (preferably with a lid), sprinkle approx. 1 cup of dry coating on the base. Remove chicken from the batter, draining excess liquid and place in the container. Sprinkle another cup of coating on top of the chicken, close container lid and shake to combine. All the chicken should be dry and coated generously. ⠀

Heat oil for deep frying and deep fry chicken in batches on medium high heat until cooked through. (Roughly 7-8 minutes). ⠀

Once chicken is fried, combine ingredients listed under “sauce” in a small bowl and pour into a small saucepan. Let simmer until sugar caramelises and sauce thickens. Pour over the fried chicken evenly and coat lightly. ⠀

Garnish chicken with sesame seeds and chives and serve immediately. ⠀

Notes ⠀

Taste and adjust sauce ingredients to your preference. You can add fresh red chillies for additional heat. ⠀
