Savoury mince tart ⠀

If you like puff pastry, then this recipe is for YOU! Gently spiced beef mince mixture on top of crispy puff pastry sheets and garnished with fresh coriander and pomegranates.⠀

This recipe came about by just trying to use up leftover ingredients: Tomatoes, coriander and pomegranate. Sometimes the best flavours come about when you’re forced to work with them. ⠀

Makes 2 tarts ⠀

Ingredients ⠀

Beef filling:⠀
300g lean beef mince⠀
1/2 medium onion, diced ⠀
1 medium tomato, diced ⠀
1 tsp garlic paste ⠀
1 tsp shawarma spice ⠀
2 tsp oil ⠀
Salt to taste ⠀
Chilli flakes to taste ⠀

Garnish:⠀
Handful coriander, chopped ⠀
1/4 cup pomegranate seeds⠀

2 sheets puff pastry, thawed ⠀
1-2 cups grated cheese ⠀
1 egg ⠀

Method ⠀

Heat a large pan on medium high heat and add oil. Add beef mince and cook until no longer pink and all liquid has evaporated. Add onion, tomatoes, garlic, shawarma spice, salt and chilli. Mix to combine. Taste and adjust ingredients to your preference. Set aside to cool. ⠀

Preheat oven to 180 C and line tray with baking paper. ⠀

Take one puff pastry sheet and place it on top of the lined tray. Trace a 2cm edge all around the pastry and use a fork to prick the central part of the pastry. ⠀

Spread 1/2 of the beef mixture in the middle of the pastry, keeping inside the border. Top with 1/2-1 cup of grated cheese.⠀

Prepare egg wash by whisking egg and adding 1-2 tsps of water. Brush pastry edge with egg wash and repeat steps with remaining pastry sheet. ⠀

Bake for 20-25 minutes or until cheese has melted and pastry is golden. Garnish with fresh coriander and pomegranate. Serve while warm, enjoy!
